How will the 2010 Honda Opportunity Drawing benefit College Bound?

All proceeds will benefit the College Bound Transition-To-College Scholarship Fund and operating expenses.

Who is College Bound?

College Bound is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides academic programs and services to prepare underserved students and their families for admission into and graduation from four-year institutions of higher education.

Since 1990, we have prepared more than 600 students for admission into and graduation from colleges and universities across the country. We are currently serving over 1,000 students and families.

When and where will the opportunity drawing take place?

The Opportunity Drawing will take place during College Bound’s 17th Annual Rites of Academic Passage Ceremony on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA.

Do you accept entry forms by email or sell tickets on the Internet?

No. Pursuant to California statutory regulations and to section 320.5 of the Penal Code, charitable raffle tickets may not be sold, redeemed or exchanged on the Internet.

How long will it take to receive my ticket(s) in the mail?

All tickets will be mailed within 3-5 business days after receiving the request. All tickets purchased before the mail-in entry deadline of April 9, 2010 will be included in the drawing.

Is this Opportunity Drawing legal?

Yes it is. In 2001, the California Legislature amended the state constitution to allow eligible non-profit organizations to conduct raffles as a means of raising funds. College Bound is registered with the California Attorney General’s Office to conduct this charitable raffle.

Will the drawing be audited?

Yes, an independent accounting agency will audit the opportunity drawing.

How much does an opportunity drawing ticket cost?

Each raffle ticket costs $50.00 or 12 for $500.00

How many opportunity drawing tickets can I purchase?

There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase. You may buy as many tickets as you like.

When is the start and end date for the opportunity drawing ticket sales?

November 7, 2009 – April 18, 2010

How many opportunity drawing tickets will be sold?

There will be an unlimited number of tickets sold.

What are the odds of winning?

Due to an unlimited number of tickets available for sale, the chances of winning are based on the final number. If fewer tickets are sold, the chances of winning improve. Purchasing more than one ticket will also improve the chances of winning.

How many prizes are awarded?

There is only one prize awarded.

Do I have to be present to win?

No. The winner does not need to be present for the drawing.

Is the Opportunity Drawing limited to California residents?

No. Non-California residents are also eligible to win.

How will the winner be notified?

The winner will be notified by phone based on the contact information provided at the time of ticket purchase. The winning name will also be posted on the College Bound website within 48 hours of the drawing on April 18, 2010.

Are the opportunity drawing tickets tax-deductible?

No. The IRS does not allow opportunity drawing tickets to be a tax-deductible contribution.

Are raffle prizes considered income?

Yes. The winner will be required to submit the IRS form 5750 and a W-2G in order to be awarded the prize.
